The Painting Holiday France Package
Our painting holidays start on Sunday at Franquettes with an informal Champagne welcome evening, where we can all meet, get settled in and relax. Then over a French inspired four course dinner we can talk about painting and the week ahead.
The tuition at Painting-France is in the morning and commences after breakfast until lunch, about 1 o’clock. If we are painting at Franquettes we will have a light lunch with wine. While painting on location we can have a prepared picnic lunch.
Richard will contact you when you book your art holiday and try to find the most appropriate ways he can help you. If you are a total beginner this holiday will get you off to a flying start. Maybe you just want to draw or try out a different medium than the one you’re familiar with.
Artists Oil Colour is the worlds finest, most versatile paint available to the artist. Its invention is attributed to the Dutch and although other types of paints have been introduced over the years, oil paints’ qualities have never been matched. However for a 6 day painting holiday, where most guests wish to take their masterpiece on canvas home, oil paint has an unfortunate disadvantage---- it dries too slowly. Beginners to oil painting also find that it is difficult to avoid smudging parts of a painting during it’s creation. Having said that, if you have your heart set on oil painting, there is a solution that is universally used by busy professional painters and illustrators who require an ‘oil painting’ finish to their pictures. Firstly they work initially with artists’ acrylic colours especially in paintings that require thick or textured areas. The dry acrylic paint surface can be overpainted within hours with fast drying alkyd based oil paints which dry in 18-24hrs.
It’s a good idea to bring your digital camera with you on
your art holiday in France.
If you have a digital camera bring it with you. On a five day painting course it is difficult to make the detailed drawings and notes that would help you with a painting after your return home. However with a digital camera it is now possible to take many shots of a subject using the camera as a tool to gather the information. For example, the detailed texture of peeling paint on an old French shop sign is quickly captured on a digital camera for later reference. In the studio we have a computer set up where you can check your photographs instantly (remember to bring any connecting cable that may be unique to your camera).
