Relax by our private pool

 at Franquettes

The property “Franquettes” was designed 7 years ago by Richard specifically to accommodate guests on a painting holiday. All the centrally heated, en-suite rooms are on the ground floor of a building that was designed to look like a timber tobacco-drying barn (sechoir de tabac) with its characteristic ventilation louvres. This rural part of South West France is littered with ancient examples of this type of barn. Above the guests’ bedrooms is a large (1000 sq. ft.) well equipped painting studio. If the accommodation at Franquettes is full don’t worry we can arrange suitable B&B in our village.

In the afternoon you are free to relax, go sightseeing, take a refreshing dip in our newly installed private swimming pool or if you prefer continue with your art work.

The Painting Holiday Package

5 day/6 night Painting Holiday

Our painting holidays start on Sunday at Franquettes with an informal Champagne welcome evening, where we can all meet, get settled in and relax. Then over a French inspired four course dinner we can talk about painting and the week ahead.

The tuition at Painting-France is in the morning and commences after breakfast until lunch, about 1 o’clock. If we are painting at Franquettes we will have a light lunch with wine. While painting on location we can have a prepared picnic lunch.

Richard will contact you when you book your art holiday and try to find the most appropriate ways he can help you .  If you are a total beginner this painting holiday will get you off to a flying start.  Maybe you just want to draw or try out a different medium than the one you’re familiar with.

If you have a digital camera bring it with you. On a five day painting course it is difficult to make the detailed drawings and notes that would help you with a painting after your return home. However with a digital camera it is now possible to take many shots of a subject using the camera as a tool to gather the information. For example, the detailed texture of peeling paint on an old French shop sign is quickly captured on a digital camera for later reference. In the studio we have a computer set up where you can check your photographs instantly (remember to bring any connecting cable that may be unique to your camera).

Imagine after a day of painting in France, sitting down and relaxing in our gallery dining room surrounded by art work, chatting with fellow students over a glass of Bordeaux and enjoying  a French inspired 4/7 course dinner. During the dessert of hot tarte tatin and caramel ice-cream you sip an elegant glass of Monbazillac the dessert wine of the region, To add to this cultural atmosphere French piano music is performed live on our grand piano.
